Bead Upon Golden Bead (November 2017)
Bead Upon Golden Bead was a short 20 minutes piece created for the 2017 Inter University Drama Festival. It was made before Buried Thunder was an established company, but members of the company performed, devised and directed the piece.
The performance was a retelling of the myth of Icarus (the boy who flew too close to the sun) with a particular focus on his father, the inventor, Daedalus. Told entirely through movement (with the exception of a poem at the beginning and end), it experimented with physical storytelling and ensemble work.
The video below is an early recording of the piece in the studio. Although it was developed and polished afterwards, the recording still captures the essence and key ideas of the piece.
